Channelkeeper recently launched a Stream Walk program, which aims to evaluate the ecological condition of creeks in the Ventura River and Goleta Slough watersheds by documenting physical impairments in the riparian zone. This program is a useful complement to our Stream Team programs, as it enables us to identify potential sources of pollutants that our Stream Team monitoring may show exceed water quality standards.

Channelkeeper serves as the local coordinator for the regional “Grunion Greeter” grunion activity monitoring program spearheaded by Pepperdine University researchers.

In order to help prevent pollution of local creeks and beaches, Channelkeeper has adopted a two-mile stretch of Highway 101 in Carpinteria through the Caltrans Adopt-A-Highway program. We also conduct beach clean-ups to help keep trash from entering the ocean and to make our beaches cleaner and more enjoyable for local citizens and tourists alike.
