| MARINE MONITORING AND EDUCATION |
![]() Santa Barbara Channelkeeper is monitoring and restoring kelp and eelgrass habitats in the Santa Barbara Channel. We have successfully restored an historic eelgrass bed at Anacapa Island, and recently embarked on another eelgrass restoration project at Santa Cruz Island in partnership with UCSB, NOAA and The Nature Conservancy. Channelkeeper is also partnering with other southern California Waterkeepers on a Giant Kelp education, monitoring and restoration program. We are monitoring and planting kelp and educating local youth on the importance of kelpbeds and the marine environment. We have reached over 1,800 local school children in the past year alone.
